Information for Contestants

When and where is the contest to be held?
The contest will take place in Ljubljana on July 12 and July 13, 2006.
How do I find my seat?
Your table will be labeled with your identification code and name, and your guide will assist you (he/she may be present in the competition hall up until ten minutes before the exam begins). There will also be signs and additional people (invigilators) to help you. Once you are seated, please remain silent.
What will be provided?
The following items will be in a large folder with your ID code. The folder must not be opened until the exam starts.
  • The Contest problems in one or two languages, as previously requested by your team leader.
  • 20 pieces of paper called Answer Form on which all your solutions and rough work must be written. More answer forms will be available if you need them. Fill in the blanks (i.e. ID code, problem number, page number) on each answer form as you use it. You will not be allowed to number your pages after the end of the exam. You must write on the front side of the paper only. Please note that you must write or draw in black ink or with black pencil only as your answer forms will be photocopied. Do not use other colors.
  • Water Paper Toilet Help One piece of paper called Query Form.
  • 3 folders each day (one for each problem).
  • One blue card with sign Water.
  • One yellow card with sign Paper.
  • One green card with sign WC.
  • One red card with sign Help.
What may I bring with me into the competition hall?
You may bring a bottle of water, writing and drawing utensils, including rulers, compasses and triangles without protractors. All this must be carried in a clear plastic bag that will be provided for you. No electronic devices (i.e. mobile phones, calculators, clocks, iPods, MP3 players, CD players, …), protractors, backpacks or briefcases are allowed into the competition hall.
What if I have a question about one or more of the problems?
Write your question in your own language on the Query Form provided. Raise your hand. The Query Form will be collected by an invigilator. Questions may be submitted only during the first 30 minutes of the exam. The invigilator will deliver the written response to you later.
What if I need more water to drink?
Raise your blue card with sign Water. You will be given one bottle of water.
What if I need more answer forms?
Raise your yellow card with sign Paper. You will be given five additional sheets of paper.
What if I need to use the toilet?
Raise your green card with sign WC. You will be escorted to and from the toilet, and you should not take anything with you. All necessary supplies will be provided there.
What if I have a health problem or a personal emergency?
Raise your red card with sign Help. When the invigilator comes, tell him/her as well as possible about your problem. Language or medical assistance will be available if necessary.
How do I know how much time is left?
There will be clocks visible in the competition hall. Invigilators will display warning signs 30 minutes and 5 minutes before the end of the exam.
What do I do when the exam is over?
When time is up, you must immediately stop writing. Sort your answer forms by problem number, put them into the 3 folders for each problem provided and put these 3 folders into the large folder with your ID code. Any paper you do not put into the folder will be discarded. Do not put any blank answer forms into the folder. You must remain seated and silent until the invigilators collect all the folders.
What if I finish the exam early?

If there is more than 30 minutes left to the end of the examination, the invigilator will collect your folders and you will be escorted out of the competition hall. (If you finish the exam in the first 30 minutes you will have to wait until first 30 minutes are over and then you will be escorted out of the competition hall.) You will not be allowed to enter the competition hall again that day.
What may I take with me out of the competition hall?
You may take with you any items you have brougt in and the Contest problems as well. In particular, you are not allowed to take with you any (blank or used) Answer Forms, (blank or used) Query Forms and colored cards with signs.
